Cloth Nappy Care
Washing your Posie's Nappy
Your Posie's nappy can be washed at 40°C or 60°C , according to your own wash routine. Whilst washing at 60°C should not affect the integrity of your nappies, it may shorten the lifespan of your nappy.
Do not use fabric softener.
Do not tumble dry PUL or Minky. You may tumble dry your AI2 and Pocket inserts and pre-flats on low. Some shrinkage may occur due to the natural fibres your inserts and pre-flats contain.
Do not dry PUL or Minky in contact with direct heat, you can place your AIO nappies on an airer next to a radiator, but not in direct contact with a heat source.
Exclusively bottle or breastfed, you may wash your nappies without the need to rinse as babies poop at this stage is water soluble. 6 months+ babies poo is no longer water soluble, you may want to use a liner (disposable or reusable), and rinse your nappy prior to washing.
If you have your own established wash routine, continue to follow that.
If you are new to cloth nappies, it is advised to run a short wash cycle to rinse the wee and poo from your nappies - you can do this using no detergent, or a half dose of detergent.
After this run a long wash (usually a long cottons wash 2 hours+) at 40°C or 60°C dosed appropriately for your load size.
You may wish to do a daily rinse depending on how often you do your main wash.
If you have stains, natural sunlight is your best friend. Place your nappies outside on a bright day and watch those stains disappear!
